What happened?

We made the perfect start, taking the lead in the third minute. A defensive clearance from Spring Hills went astray and found its way into the back of the net, giving City an early advantage.

Despite our bright opening, Spring Hills gradually grew into the contest and began controlling possession inside their attacking half. Their pressure eventually paid off when Aubry Labnau directed a well-placed header into the corner to level proceedings before half-time.

The second half developed into a fiercely contested encounter, with both sides creating opportunities. Spring Hills enjoyed extended spells of possession and looked dangerous through their forward line, but City’s defence stood firm.

Goalkeeper Dali Gorr Burchmore was called into action on multiple occasions, producing several crucial saves to deny Spring Hills from taking the lead. Her best intervention came midway through the second half when she tipped a powerful effort from Katie Godden over the crossbar to keep the scores level.

At the other end, we continued to threaten on transition. Heidi Draai was influential throughout the match, regularly driving City forward and linking play between midfield and attack. Chelsea Biggs and Sienna Calvanese also created dangerous moments, while Mary Brown looked to unlock the Spring Hills defence with several well-weighted passes.

Defensively, Liliana Lamaj delivered an impressive performance, making several important interceptions and tackles, while Capitanio’s work rate at both ends of the pitch was a standout feature of City’s display.

The match remained physical throughout the closing stages, with both sides competing strongly for every ball as they searched for a late winner. Despite late pressure from both teams, neither could find a decisive breakthrough.

After a spirited defensive effort and several key saves from Gorr Burchmore, City held on to secure a deserved share of the points in a competitive contest.
