After taking the lead through Maycon with only five minutes of regular time remaining, the Red and White appeared poised to clinch its first win of the campaign.
However, fate had other ideas, with Sydney FC capitalising on a dubious late corner to snatch an equaliser through Nick Carle, replicating his feat of week 27 last season, when the Socceroo once again pounced to earn the Sky Blues a point.
While van ‘t Schip acknowledged the referee-s error in awarding the corner which led to the goal, the Dutchman felt his side ultimately failed to display the poise necessary to close out the contest.
Revealing the team was devastated by the result, van ‘t Schip reiterated the need to learn from the experience ahead of the Club-s upcoming match against Adelaide United on Friday night.
“There was just a little bit too much panic. Knowing how badly we need the three points, it feels like a loss. Everyone’s devastated,” he said.
Van ‘t Schip will be faced with a selection dilemma at Hindmarsh Stadium as he seeks to cover the loss of Curtis Good to international duty.
However, with fellow youth international Brendan Hamill waiting in the wings, van ‘t Schip has a ready-made replacement to fill the void in the centre of the park alongside Simon Colosimo.
After featuring for the Young Socceroos during the recently completed U/20 World Cup in Colombia, Hamill is widely considered to be a star of the future, highlighting the depth of talent in the Heart squad.
