Re-signed: Scott Galloway extends contract

Melbourne City FC is happy to announce the re-signing of defender Scott Galloway until the end of the 2024/25 A-League Men season. After joining City in 2019, Galloway has made 45 appearances and scored four goals in his time at the Club so far. The fullback was one of City’s best in its run to the Premiership and Championship double last season. He started each of the final 14 matches, recording two assists and scoring three goals – including one in the Grand Final.

City signs young duo, completing A-League Women squad

Melbourne City FC can announce the signings of New Zealand defender Marisa van der Meer and midfielder Meisha Westland for the 2021/22 A-League Women season. The young duo are City’s final signings ahead of the new season, which is set to kick-off on Friday 3 December. van der Meer recently received her first international call-up and was part of the Football Ferns’ squad for the Tokyo Olympics, although she is yet to receive her first cap.

A-League Women squad locked in!

Following Friday morning’s signing announcements, our squad for the newly rebranded A-League Women season has been locked in! Several of our Melbourne-based players began pre-season training a couple of weeks ago, while we are hoping to have the full squad in training together as soon as possible ahead of our season opener against Canberra United on December 3. Rado Vidosic’s squad this season will have seven players returning from last season, headlined by Captain Emma Checker.

Re-signed: Jordan Bos extends contract

Melbourne City FC is happy to announce the re-signing of defender Jordan Bos who has extended his contract until the end of the 2024/25 A-League Men season. The 18-year-old left-back first began his journey with City’s Academy in 2016 and broke through to the first team late in the 2020/21 Championship winning season. Although yet to make his senior debut, Bos has impressed at NPL level and has tremendously benefited since he began training with the senior team last season under Head Coach Patrick Kisnorbo.

City sign midfielder Leticia McKenna on two-year deal

Melbourne City FC is pleased to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Leticia McKenna until the end of the 2022/23 A-League Women season. The 19-year-old joins City from Brisbane Roar where she made 12 appearances in 2020/21. McKenna has a total of 37 appearances in what was previously the W-League and has also scored three goals since making her debut in 2018. A part of the Young Matildas program, McKenna is highly technically skilled and looks set to fit well into Rado Vidosic’s squad. Head Coach Rado Vidosic said:

FIFA 22: City squad ratings

With FIFA 22 only days away from its official release, we’ve got all the ratings of our City squad right here for you! In a surprise to absolutely nobody, our star striker Jamie Maclaren is the (equal) highest rated A-League player, with a 76 overall rating. Maclaren bagged 25 goals last season on his way to a third A-League Golden Boot, which sees him receive a +3 upgrade from FIFA 21. Our number nine is also one of only three players in the league with a 5-star weak foot.

Tyla-Jay Vlajnic returns to City

Melbourne City FC is happy to announce the re-signing of Tyla-Jay Vlajnic for the upcoming W-League season. Vlajnic has made 40 appearances for City after having been part of the Club’s inaugural W-League squad. She currently sits in eighth place on the Club’s all-time appearance list and could end the season in the top five.

After missing the start of the season due to a hamstring injury, Atkinson got back to playing some solid, consistent football from February to early May, but a run of nine consecutive starts would soon come to a cruel end.

Opening rounds of the 2021/22 season announced!

A revised start date as well as our opening fixtures of the new A-League and W-League seasons are here – and there are plenty of highlights for City fans!  The A-League Champions kick off the 2021/22 season on Friday 19 November. City fans will get the chance to see their team in action at AAMI Park on the opening night, with a clash against Brisbane Roar kicking off at 7:45pm. The new A-League season will begin in a conference system, where we'll be joined by the two other Victorian teams, Adelaide United, Perth Glory, and Brisbane Roar.

Melissa Barbieri returns to City for 2021/22 season

Melbourne City FC is happy to announce the return of Melissa Barbieri for her 11th W-League season. Since joining City in November 2017 on an injury replacement contract, Barbieri has played a massive role in the W-League squad which will continue as a playing Assistant Coach this season. The veteran has had a big hand in the development and mentorship of City’s goalkeepers and was called into action last season when Player of the Year Teagan Micah went down with injury.
