ALM Squad Update: Four to depart, winger triggers extension

Melbourne City FC can confirm four players will depart the Club following the conclusion of the 2025/26 season, while Academy graduate Ben Mazzeo is locked in at City for a further year.

Daniel Arzani, Ryan Teague and Marcus Younis will all return to their parent clubs following the completion of their loan spells during the second half of the campaign.

All three made valuable contributions during their time in Melbourne, with injuries unfortunately interrupting the latter stages of the season for both Arzani and Teague.

Arzani brought flair and attacking creativity during his second stint at City, making 12 appearances, scoring once and providing two assists.

Teague featured 15 times in midfield and quickly became an important presence in the centre of the park before an unfortunate knee injury.

Younis made an immediate impact following his arrival at the Club, scoring in back-to-back appearances and quickly establishing himself as an exciting attacking threat.

The 20-year-old also impressed on the continental stage, scoring and assisting in City’s memorable away win over Ulsan HD – a result that secured qualification to the AFC Champions League Elite knockout stages for the first time in Club history.

Championship winner Zane Schreiber will also depart the Club following the conclusion of his contract.

Schreiber spent three seasons in Melbourne, making 62 senior appearances and scoring twice across all competitions.

A respected and dependable member of City’s squad, the midfielder played an important role throughout the Club’s 2024/25 Championship-winning campaign and contributed consistently both domestically and in Asia during his time in Melbourne.

In positive news for City fans, exciting young winger Ben Mazzeo will remain at the Club for the 2026/27 season after reaching a trigger for a one-year contract extension.

A product of City’s Academy, Mazzeo made his professional debut in November 2023 and has since gone on to make 39 senior appearances, scoring five goals.

Among those was a dramatic late equaliser against Buriram United in the ACL Elite earlier this year, further highlighting the 20-year-old’s continued development in City colours.

Melbourne City FC Director of Football Michael Petrillo thanked the departing players for their contributions to the Club.

“We thank Ryan, Daniel and Marcus for the professionalism and quality they brought during their time with the Club, as well as their parent clubs for their support throughout each of their loan spells in Melbourne,” Petrillo said.

“All three players made a strong impact in City blue, both domestically and in Asia, and quickly became valued members of our environment.

“While Daniel and Marcus’ current loan periods have come to an end, we will continue dialogue where appropriate and would be delighted to welcome players of their quality back to the Club should the opportunity arise.

“We also thank Zane, who has been a valued member of our squad over the past three seasons and someone who consistently contributed whenever called upon.

“Zane played an important role throughout our Championship-winning campaign and represented Melbourne City with professionalism throughout his time at the Club.

“We thank all four players for their contributions and wish them the very best for the future.”
